What is Self-Expression?
Updated: Aug 27, 2020
Let’s think about it…
Self-Expression is one of the 5 areas of behavior measured in the EQ-i 2.0 tool and is an extension of the Self-Perception scale. It addresses the outward expression of one’s internal perception and assesses one’s propensity to remain self-directed and openly expressive of thoughts and feelings, while communicating these feelings in a constructive and socially acceptable way.
Just thinking about the definition gets me wondering – if we all could express ourselves in an open, authentic, constructive, and socially acceptable way, wouldn’t more experiences and interactions be more meaningful?
I look forward to sharing insights into the 3 skills that make up the Self-Perception area (Emotional Expression, Assertiveness, & Independence) in the weeks to come.
