Happy May Everyone! I hope you enjoyed the discussions about Michael Stanier’s book, “The Advice Trap” this past month; if you aren’t up to date, no worries, check out the Quotes, Think about it Thursdays, and Pulse Point below. I wrote about this topic of staying curious a little bit longer and rush to advice giving a little slower as many people (me included) struggle with this concept from time to time; after all, no one is perfect! The concept of helping develop others through building their critical thinking skills is essential to our people’s growth journey. Also, having a natural curiosity helps you in many facets of life. Quick fun fact – when I’ve interviewed people for my teams in the past, if a candidate didn’t ask a thoughtful question or two during the interview, they would not be considered for the job. Asking thoughtful questions shows your natural curiosity, that you care, and want to understand.
In May, I have some exciting plans including kicking off the month on a Women’s Entrepreneur Retreat in Sedona (with my Ellivate Alliance sisters), working with amazing clients to “feed” and “grow” their #1 assets (their people) through training and coaching, enjoying several family and friends activities, exhibiting and attending the Women Leading Kentucky conference, and of course, saving some time for some self-care! What are you up to this month? As far as what I’m writing about in May, it’ll be all about the qualities for the Ideal Team Player - so, stay tuned!
I look forward to hearing your personal and professional development milestones this month! Please share on social media and reach out to chat if you need anything!

Can you believe we are already 25% through the year!?! I hope you enjoyed learning about/refreshing yourself on/thinking about employee engagement in March – if you missed anything or want to go back and reference something, check out the Quotes, Think about it Thursdays, and Pulse Point below. Engaging employees is crucial for an organization’s success and long-term viability. So often people overcomplicate what is needed and required so that’s why I covered the basics throughout March.
For April, I look forward to some Spring sunshine as I plan to discuss the advice trap many managers fall into at the workplace… Stay tuned!

Happy March! We are just rocking it through the year, aren’t we? The saying “time flies,” I’ve been feeling that a lot lately. Not sure what that’s all about…but I’m glad you are here with me. I hope you enjoyed the Coaching for Development topic for February; if you aren’t up to date on them, no worries, check out the Quotes, Think about it Thursdays, and Pulse Point below. I wrote about that topic over my birthday month as it’s critical that as a people manager we develop our people and help them build their own critical thinking skills. So often people managers think they are developing their employees but in reality we can be the bottleneck, the answer bank, the advice giver, and so on – all of which don’t help our people cultivate the critical thinking skills that help them grow and don’t help us build out our team’s potential.
In March, some of the things I plan to do are soak up some sun on a short vacation, watch a lot of college basketball (love March Madness time!), and celebrate my husband’s birthday. What are you up to this month? As far as what I’m writing about this month, it’ll be all about Employee Engagement; without engagement, your department and organization will not thrive. So, stay tuned!

Can you believe it’s a new year?!? To me the saying, “time flies” is so true; 2023 seemed to go by fast! As I look back on the year, it was filled with lots of celebrations, travel, laughs, friends, family, growing, love, adventure, milestones, relationship strengthening, among so many more things.
I look forward to a new year grounded it doing what motivates me, which is why all our December material (Quotes, Think about it Thursdays, Pulse Point, etc. which you can read below) had this theme. In 2024, we’ll kick off with goal setting as our focus as many are taking their reflections on the past year and their dreams for the future and setting baby steps to tackle them! Does this ring a bell for any of you? If you haven’t thought about it, no worries, take a moment and think about it now. I look forward to another great year with you!
Wishing you a year full of learning, love, joy, and inspiration!

When you think of the word inspire, what do you think of? In the context of an inspiring leader, honesty, integrity, caring for others as human beings, and helping others build confidence and reach their potential are some of the characteristics that come to my mind. I encourage you to take some time to reflect on this initial question and for more inspiration and insight, check out the Quotes, Think about it Thursdays, and monthly Pulse Point posted this past month! Last month’s theme was all about not overcomplicating things! So often we find ourselves stuck in what we think is impossible to navigate out of, but many times we are making it more difficult than it needs to be. I encourage you to take that first baby step, or the next step, or make the best decision with the information you have right now. Don’t get stuck, and don’t overcomplicate it. Hope you found something that resonated with you through the Quotes, Think about it Thursdays, and Pulse Point I published around this topic. Please let me know what your takeaway has been.
Hope you are taking advantage of some time off during the summer! I recently came back from a fantastic beach vacation where the sun was shining, the ocean waves were calming, and the laughs were abundant; my “happy place”! Would love to hear from you – what’s your “happy place”?

I hope you enjoyed my thoughts around Melissa Daimler’s book, “Reculturing” through my June Quotes, Think about it Thursdays, and Pulse Point. Running a successful business and team truly takes constant reflection and effort. This book is a must read for any organization who wants to continuously evolve by having their strategy, purpose, and workplace culture in alignment. She defines ReCulturing as “the continuous act of redesigning and reconnecting behaviors, processes, and practices to each other and to the organizational system.” (Daimler, 2022, p.11) Some of you may have also picked up the book… Would love to hear your thoughts!!!
On another note, I hope you are having a wonderful summer so far! I recently came back from a vacation, and it reminds me that everyone needs a break from work to unplug, rest, relax, have fun, and come back clearer and more creative. Would love to hear what you are doing in the summer!!!

Lifelong learning is another core value of mine and was the theme for May – check out thoughts around Learning Journeys through my Quotes, Think about it Thursdays, and Pulse Point. It’s fascinating thinking about all the ways you can learn – there isn’t one way to learn nor is there a one-size-fits-all approach. You can choose what approach interests you the most, you can learn something in less than 5 minutes, you can try to do things, fail, and try again, and yes, that’s learning! Learning helps us develop a growth mindset that’s critical to going through life’s journey and building those much-needed resiliency skills. I would love to hear from you about the last thing you learned and how! Please send me a note!
For June, I will focus on the concept of “Reculturing” based on Melissa Daimler’s book. I hope you find a few aha moments about this concept like I did. I look forward to hearing how you and your organization think about the continuous evolution of culture!
Hope you have a fantastic June!

Human leadership is more critical than ever. What do I mean by “human leadership”? Many thoughts and phrases come to my mind including but not limited to: “we are all human”, “authenticity is key”, “no one is perfect”, “what motivates you / what are your values”, “humans are meant to evolve, change, and grow”, “we are not robots, we are human”, “connect with others as a fellow human being”, “lets appreciate each other as a person”, and “wouldn’t it be nice if we just talked with others and really listened to them?” My core values include being authentic and myself and humanizing leadership. Throughout April, I included thoughts around this area through my Quotes, Think about it Thursdays, and Pulse Point – check them out.
Remember no one is perfect; we are all human! Get grounded in your core values and then reflect, learn, and take action to bring a more human side to leadership.
Wishing you a fantastic May!

Meeting employee needs to increase employee engagement was the focus for all my March publications. Wouldn’t it be great if every single employee felt heard, understood, connected, appreciated, and fulfilled? It’s possible! We often overcomplicate things. Check out my Quotes, Think about it Thursdays, and Pulse Point for tips and inspiration. Remember no one is perfect! Try something, start small, and genuinely care and you’ll see progress!

Empathy was the theme for February and what an imperative emotional intelligence leadership skill it is! This skill meets the human need to feel heard and understood and I bet we can agree that we need more of this in everyday life. A more caring, compassionate world – what a great dream! We can control what we do and say (not anyone else), we can take that baby step forward, and we can reflect and come back (we are human after all), so what action are you taking to be more empathetic?
I look forward to hearing from you about the above question and also look forward to sharing quotes, thoughts, and publications around Employee Engagement this month!
