What is Empathy?

Updated: Aug 27, 2020

Let’s think about it…

Empathy (within the Interpersonal behavior measured in the EQ-i 2.0 tool) is often misunderstood. I like how the book, The EQ Edge, laid out “what empathy is not. People sometimes confuse empathy with being “nice” – with making generally polite and pleasant statements. Many people confuse empathy with sympathy, but the two are actually quite different. Empathy is all about recognizing, understanding, and appreciating how other people feel (even if you disagree with it). To improve your empathy leadership skills, in general, stop and listen more to others. We do have 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason…
