Relationships - Practice Listening

Here’s something to think about it…

As you get to know someone, it’s important to truly listen to understand. Listening is something many people think they do but there’s a process to it that we often don’t think about. Listening actually falls within the emotional intelligence leadership skill of empathy and it’s a 3-step process. First, we need to understand that person’s thoughts, feelings, or beliefs (requires listening). Then we need to recognize/appreciate that person’s thoughts, feelings, or beliefs (requires listening). Lastly, we need to articulate in our own words that person’s thoughts, feelings, or beliefs. This shows someone we are trying to understand them and in turn, that person feels heard and understood. Empathy can be magical!
