Why Should we Ask Open-Ended Questions?

Let’s think about it…

Have you been in a situation where you were trying to understand someone else’s perspective and were struggling to comprehend it? If so, you are not alone as this is very common. Empathy is all about understanding, appreciating, and articulating someone else’s thoughts, feelings, or beliefs. You are trying to understand what is going on in their head, not what you assume to be…

To effectively flex this leadership skill, you should ask excavating questions. By using open-ended questions, you’ll draw out more information from that person to help you understand their thoughts, feelings, or beliefs. You could start simply by asking, “how did you feel (or what did you think) about this or that.”
