Here’s something to think about it…
Once you are grounded in your motivations, it’s important to communicate these to your supervisor. How do you do this? Simply weave it into your next 1X1 conversation or career development discussion. If you don’t have one of these scheduled, ask for it. Trust me, your supervisor would love to know what motivates you! Also, if you are a supervisor and you haven’t discussed what motivates your individual team members, just ask them in your next touch base. Even if you’ve asked them in the past, it doesn’t mean that what motivated them 2 years ago is what motivates them today.
